We Can't Fight Mother Nature

Things are changes in the estuary, but it doesn’t look like for long.

Each year about this time, man fights nature and a big machine is brought in to move sand around, but usually within days Mother Nature takes control again. Over the weekend a front-end loader moved mountains of sand and cleared a small channel, but it wasn’t very deep and the boats still needed some help to make it through.

I walked down this morning to see what was happening and there is barely a trickle of water getting through so the fishermen are once again relying on a bunch of strong Mexicans with a couple of wheels and an axel to get their boats moving.

I’m sure the recent activity in the estuary cost many thousands of pesos, caused a lot of controversy between the gringos and the locals, and made it difficult for anyone trying to cross the river on foot.

We didn’t particularly like the look of the shabby palapas in the estuary, but that is no longer an issue. Not for a few more days, anyway. We can now barely see the roofs of the palapas over the wall of sand, but I’m sure they will soon be clearly visible again as the sand washes out to sea. Que Sera, Sera.
