My desert roses are grown in pots because they don’t like moist tropical gardens. They do best in well drained soil and full sun. They have a twisted pale grey trunk, glossy leaves and bright pink, trumpet shaped flowers that appear almost continuously.
Plumbago is a climbing shrub which can reach several meters in height, but I prefer to grow it in tall pots so the blooms and foliage can cascade over and down the sides. It has delicate blue flowers that look much like phlox. It thrives when planted in poor, dry soil and grows best when heavily pruned from time to time. Heavy rainfall tends to beat down the flowers and leaves.
