Benito Juarez & Volkswagens

We went down the beach this afternoon to have some lunch and soon realized that it is a holiday weekend because there were thousands of visitors soaking up the sun.

Everyone has Monday off to celebrate Benito Pablo Juarez Garcia, who was a Zapotec Amerindian who served five terms as President of Mexico.

For resisting the French occupation, overthrowing the Empire, and restoring the Republic, as well as his efforts to modernize the country, Juárez is often regarded as Mexico’s greatest and most beloved leader. He is the only full-blooded indigenous national to serve as President of Mexico.

There is also a Volkswagen show in town which has attracted even more visitors. There had to be a hundred or so souped-up expensive Volkswagens in the square, all owned by Mexicans. By the look of these cars, and all the other upscale vehicles and beautiful motorcyles parked around town, some of the Mexicans are a little more prosperous than they used to be.









The music coming from the giant boom boxes and top-of-the-line sound systems was something else. There were probably a few eardrums blown out today.

It was obvious that some of the guys had already had too much to drink and it was definitely the place to be seen. There were many, many girls in very low tops and short skirts and lots of couples dressed to match their cars.




The barbie car was really cute.
