Grand Bay Isla Navidad

  

It’s now been a couple of weeks since we stayed at the Grand Bay, but it seems like forever ago because we’ve been so busy.

I’m still plodding away at my Spanish which eats up most of my spare time.

We are also once again getting some work done on the upper deck of Casa Qué Sera.  The boys are building a roof over the stairs to the deck and they are also resurfacing the floor of the deck.  They’ve been here for just about two weeks and will probably be here another couple of weeks or more.   Needless to say we are in a big mess again.  Bucket after bucketload of concrete is being packed from the street to the roof all day, every day, but enough of this.

When we started driving onto the grounds of the Grand Bay, all I could say was a great big “Wow”. To reach the hotel we wound through their golf course which is studded with small lakes and  tall palm trees. Everywhere we looked there was something spectacular to look at like this club house tucked away amist the palms.

When we walked into the hotel I said another great big “Wow”. The lobby was absolutely stunning. We were guided to soft sofas and served tall cold drinks while they checked us in.

After checking in we were escorted to a luxurious room which overlooked the marina.  There was a basket of fresh fruit waiting for us on the table, and within seconds of entering the room, someone arrived with a bucket of ice cold coronas and some nuts for snacking on.

The view from our balcony was spectacular as you can see from the next few photos.

The extensive grounds were beautifully groomed with interesting focal points at every turn.

The finishing details in this Spanish-style hotel are absolutely exquisite.

There were literally hundreds of hand painted tiles of various sizes everywhere that guided you along the way.

The main pool was very big and very beautiful.

But we preferred the very private pool that was just steps from our room.  It wasn’t accessible from the grounds so it didn’t attract a lot of guests.

As a matter of fact we never saw another soul in this pool area the four days we were there. Just Bruce, me and my toes.

We had several dining rooms to choose from and we enjoyed them all. This romantic restaurant, called La Terraza, was my very favourite. We enjoyed three long leisurely dinners at La Terraza.  It was so fresh and cool  dining under the stars with all the sparkling lights of Barra just a short distance away across the water.

Antonio's was also especially nice.

Take note of the hundreds of bottles of different tequilas that were being offered at Antonio's.

There were many, many beautiful yachts anchored at the resort’s marina. We can't imagine how many millions of dollars are tied up in these boats.

Many small water taxis couriered guests of the resort back and forth from the resort to the town of Barra.

A few palapas restaurants lined the shore just outside the grounds of the resort.  They offered free rides from Barra so there was always a steady stream of water taxies coming and going.

We thoroughly enjoyed all the charm of Old Mexico during our stay at the Grand Bay Isla Navidad.
