Good Old Inner Tubes

Do you remember when you were a kid, if you were really lucky your parents would take you to the tire shop and get you an inner tube before heading to the beach?

Today kids can get floaties in whatever size, shape, or colour they want and especially here in Mexico. Scads of stores on the main street of Guayabitos sell inflated dolphins, whales, turtles, airplanes, etc. and the beach vendors, who are buried under huge loads of similar stuff, peddle their carts up and down the beach all day, tempting kids of all ages.


It looks like it would be difficult to get on and off most of these toys and I’m sure it wouldn’t take much to spring a leak.

I still think there’s something to be said for a good old fashioned inner tube.

You got to search out just the right size and then watch as it was being patched, and then you got to fill it with just enough air so it wouldn't bulge. The other good thing about a good old fashioned inner tube was that it was strong enough to keep you and all your buddies afloat all day long.
