Saved the Best for Last

We saw and crossed many rivers during our trip to the Maritimes and New England, and some of them were very wide.

But most of them were like the ones in the following photos.

The leaves on the hills and along the riverbeds were just beginning to change.

There hadn't been any really cold weather so the colours weren't as vibrant as we might have liked, but they were still very beautiful.

There's something about a gently flowing river that is very soothing to both the eyes and the mind.

It's amazing what stunning beauty nature provides for us if we just take the time to have a look.

We often stopped along the way to get a better look at all the incredible scenery.

This is my last blog about our trip to the Maritimes and New England.  After a long trip, we tend to forget some of the things we saw or did along the way.

Every time I blogged about the beautiful little towns or the charming little cottages or the incredible scenery we saw, even the smallest details of our trip kept creeping back to me.

We drove over 5,000 km and saw so much.

If I had to pick a favourite place or a particular highlight of our trip, I'd have to say it was simply the peace and silence we experienced along the way.

We drove past hundreds of picturesque, wild blueberry fields that turn crimson in the Fall.  Wild blueberry bushes creep along the ground and are just a few inches high.

It was the quiet of the countless country lanes, the tranquil pristine beauty of all the coastal back roads, the romantic charm of folksy, small towns, the large, but unpretentious Cape Cod houses and the simplicity of the endless, modest, well kept homes that inspired and rejuvenated the soul.

Scarecrows by the Dozens

On one of drives around Nova Scotia, we came upon the picturesque small town of Mahone Bay.

As we got further into Mahone Bay, we starting noticing scarecrows everywhere.

We soon discovered why there were so many of them.

It was time for Mahone Bay's annual Scarecrow Festival.

Even the Royals were in town for the celebration.

All the scarecrows just stood by as the Bank of Montreal was being robbed.

We parked the car and took a walk through town and were so glad we did.

All these delightful creatures couldn't help but bring smiles to our faces.

They went on and on and on.
