These peculiar looking casitas were built several years ago by one of Guayabitos’ eccentric Mexican builders. He heard that more and more tourists were coming and it looked like a great opportunity a make a few bucks. He hoped to sell them to the rich gringos.
Although his construction costs were low, he was asking top dollar and assumed the crazy gringos would find his prices affordable. Surprise, surprise! None sold! I guess the crazy gringos weren’t so stupid after all.
After a year, he hadn't made a sale, so he painted the lower part of the buildings, black and the humps and bumps, brown, but still no purchasers. Last year he painted them white with big black blotches so they resembled a herd of “Holstein Cows”. They were definitely eye-catching, but didn't attract any buyers.
This year the owner finally decided to rent his casitas which meant that they would now be called bungalows. He painted the lower parts, chocolate brown and the humps, snow white and then put up a rather large RENTO sign, but the place still looks vacant.
A bungalow is a low- budget, small apartment type hotel with one or two bedrooms and a simple kitchen overlooking a central courtyard. Thousands of Mexicans converge on Guayabitos each Easter and many of them stay in any one of the dozens of bungalows spread all over town.
Maybe the owner can rent his bungalows over Easter to some Mexican tourists . All he needs is a large, extended family which is looking for unusual accommodation, prefers sleeping near the highway over sleeping near the beach, and doesn't care if there are any windows in the place. I’m thinking these bungalows could easily sleep at least a hundred or so people.
