Beso del Sol Steakhouse

Have you tried Beso del Sol yet?  We have eaten there twice in the last couple of weeks and have been impressed both times.

The restaurant and art gallery are located on the left side of the main street in Guayabitos.  The street address is #103 Avenue Sol Nuevo.

It’s kind of fun to walk around and look at the art before ordering a drink and your meal.

The warm atmosphere, the linen cloths and napkins on the tables and the nice background music really make us feel like we are dining out rather than just eating out.

Julio, the owner of the restaurant, and Carlos and Betty, his servers, are very pleasant and attentive.

The first time we ate at Beso del Sol, I ordered the rib steak and I enjoyed it so much I ordered it again last night.  Bruce tried the fillet and seafood and it was also very good.

Julio serves aged Angus beef so the steaks are really flavourful and very tender.

A green salad was served before our meals and the steak dinners included a baked potato and some fresh veggies.

Julio suggested we try the Concha y Toro Selección Merlot Blend and it was a good recommendation.

If you looking for a good steak dinner, you might want to give Beso del Sol a try.

They also serve seafood, pastas and burgers.

The Fiesta for Steffany

Last month I did a blog about our amigo’s daughter, Estefany, who would be turning 15 in December and celebrating her Quinceañera.
We were invited to the fiesta for “Steffany” on the 18th of December, the day she turned 15.  She and Raphael, her dad, delivered one of these beautiful invitations to us.

The fiesta was held at Tonita 3’s, a large restaurant in La Peñita. There were 150 invited guests who ranged from small babies to older uncles.

As soon as the religious ceremony was over, someone brought all the flowers from the church over to the restaurant.

When we arrived at Tonita’s, some fellows from Puerto Vallarta were setting up the sound system.

And then all Steffany’s girl friends arrived.

The attendants were patiently waiting for the guest of honour to arrive.

Before long Steffany and her family appeared at the door.

When everyone was organized, the ceremonies began. First Steffany had to sit while her dad removed her flat shoes and then her mom handed her a pair of silver high heels.

As soon as Steffany got her heels on, it was time for the first dance with her dad and then she had to dance a few steps with all her male relatives (and there were lots of them).

Then there was another ceremony that lasted for nearly an hour where she danced with all her male attendants. These young men looked very handsome in their black suits and tangerine silk ties.

Then it was time for the guys to pick her up so she could throw a doll back over her head to all the young girls in the crowd. Now that Steffany was a women, she no longer had any use for dolls.

When all the ceremonies were over, there was a burst of fireworks and then everyone sat for dinner and drinks.

We were served a roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings and there was a bottle or two of wine and tequila on each table.

During dinner, the sound guys put on quite the light and sound show for all of us.

Her birthday cakes were extraordinary. They were beautifully decorated and were perched high above a small fountain.

Not long after dinner was served, we made our exit. I’m sure the fiesta would continue through to the wee hours of the morning, but was late enough for us.

Everyone was just gearing up to have fun and Steffany was finally able to relax and enjoy the rest of the evening with her family and friends.

Sergio's Wedding

Our favourite restaurant in the area for breakfast is El Crucero in El Monteon, a little village about 10 minutes from us.

As a matter of fact we went there for breaky on Christmas morning and had our usual.  Bruce had a Mexican omelette with ground chorizo and I had bacon and scrambled eggs with chilaquiles.  I always have hot milk with Nescafé (it tastes exactly like a latte) and Bruce has a brewed coffee.  They usually serve us complimentary guacamole and tostadas to start and we get all this for about $8.00.

Over the years we have gotten to know the owners of the little restaurant and about a month ago, Sergio, one of the members of the extended family of four generations, who live on the property, told us he was getting married mid afternoon on the 18th of December (Mexicans love to get married around the Christmas season).

We had lunch in Lo de Marcos, another town that’s about 15 minutes from us, on the afternoon of the 18th.   On the way back from lunch, we stopped by the little church in El Monteon just in time to take some pictures before the bride and groom drove away.

All the flowers were so pretty.

This is Sergio  and his bride.

There were many pretty girls, some handsome men and beautiful children at the wedding.

We were invited to attend the fiesta for the bride and groom that evening, but we'd already accepted an invitation to go to the fiesta for Steffany who was turning 15 the same day.
